Out of the question of paying fees for resit at the University of Mauritius (UoM).The latter claims Rs 1,400 per module to pass an exam as a result of a decision made on Thursday. This measure caused the walk-out of a dozen students at the meeting at which the decision was communicated. On Friday, the Student Union met urgently. In protest, a sit-in will take place on Thursday morning. The resignation of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the UoM is called for. Contacted, Hussein Subratty, vice-chancellor, says that “no one informed us that the students contest.There is no new regulation because it already exists. It is not correct to say that the student representative did not have the opportunity to speak at the board meeting. The Speaker gave him ample time to speak. There is a limit in what we can do as concessions. There was no walk-out either, “he says.
