At 3 pm on Friday, 27 January, a mob gathered at Place d’Armes, Port Louis, for a protest march against the transfer of power between Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Pravind Jugnauth.Supporters of the Labor Party (PTr) and the Mauritanian Social Democratic Party (PMSD) mobilized, dressed in black waving placards.Slogans such as “no to papa piti deal” and “democracy in mourning” could be read on the black banners worn by the protesters while others were labeled with placards. At 3 pm, Navin Ramgoolam and Xavier-Luc Duval, respectively leader of the PTr and PMSD, had not yet arrived. However, members of the two opposition parties were on site as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations. The parade will have to leave the Place d’Armes to head towards rue Royale, then rue Desforges before passing the municipality of Port-Louis and finally the Prime Minister’s Office to return to their starting point.
